Please explain Ron Paul to me.

Specifically explain who he is, and why the Internet cares, and why I don't.

Ron Paul is a Libertarian in Republican clothing. He believes you are smarter than the government. He believes you know how you should spend (and share) your money. He believes you should take care of yourself and not be dependent on the government except in terms of national defense (as Reagan said, "defend us from others, but don't defend me from myself). Ron Paul believes in the Constitution. Ron Paul doesn't want to declare war on the world, and he wants us out of the ones we're in.

He is an unbridled american spirit.

Or, more accurately...

1: He's running for the Republican presidental nominee. He's currently polling in the low single-digits (most recent ABC News/Washington Post poll has him at 2%).

2: Because Ron Paul sees himself as the next Howard Dean (expect, you know, successful), and everyone loves an underdog, especially when he's campaigning on the internet and on Comedy Central.

3: Because he's even more conservative than most republicans.
