"War is a sin..."

"...but sometimes a necessary one." So says one of the Virgin Queen's advisors in Elizabeth, at any rate, which I am half-watching now for the EIGHTH time in the past few years. (I have a hard time getting through this movie, even though I do like it in concept.)

After watching a bunch of State of the Union YouTube clips this afternoon in preparation for this piece, it was a line that stuck in my head. Is that actual Biblical sin we're talking about? A real philosophical truth? Or just a throw-away line in a 90s costume drama? You decide.
