LiFE ON MARS, Claymation and otherwise Life On Mars, everyone's favorite British time-travel cop show, is due to start its second and final season next month, and here's a lovely article about it, complete with a preview of a Claymation tie-in piece that I have no idea how to explain. Claymation Sam Tyler is adorable, for the record. As is Claymation DCI Hunt, but only when he's punching people.
Through various means, I recently got to read the pilot script for the American adaptation, which is a nearly word-for-word transfer of character and story, but without much of its charm. I'm also not a big fan of making the female lead, previously on the level of a meter maid, a full-on detective -- most of what I enjoy about Life on Mars is how rough and honest it was about the 1970s, in all its un-PC glory, and Det. Annie Cartwright is just the first of several red flags indicating that the US might not be able to go as far as the UK did.
Wow, the American version of a series not living up to the British? Sorry. I'll try and be less predictable in the future.Labels: tv:life on mars
